  • What is the proper name of the scripting language used in Adobe Flash?

  • In Flash, what is the difference between symbols and instances?

  • In Flash, when you create a new layer, does it appear above or below the currently-selected layer?

  • What determines the "paint order" of the objects or instances on the stage?

  • In Flash, what is the difference between layers and objects?

  • In Flash, what are the names of the tools on the Tools palette?

  • In Flash, how do you set the color of the stage? How do you set its size?

  • In Flash, what is the maximum number of frames possible within a scene?

  • What is the playback head? Can it be tracked (to know the current scene and frame number from within the presentation)? If so, how?

  • In Flash, what is the purpose of the Properties palette?

  • According to a recent market research survey, what percentage of consumers receiving junk mail actually open the envelopes?

  • What should you do every few minutes and/or following major changes when working in multimedia project?

  • In Flash, what is an event handler? How do you attach one to an object?

  • In Flash, what is the object property that controls transparency?

  • In Flash, what is the maximum number of layers available in a scene?

  • How do you set a sound or music file to play in the background across multiple scenes?

  • How many colors can be seen on a monitor set to 8-bit color? 16-bit color? 24-bit color? 32-bit color?

  • In Flash, how do you exchange one object for another on the stage in a scene?

  • How much actual RAM does a 24-bit color image that is 640 pixels wide by 480 pixels high require when it is opened and displayed on the stage in Flash (do the math)?

  • What does the term "RGB" stand for? Why is that relevant to the Flash development environment?

  • How do you give an instance a name?

  • What is the Output window used for?

  • How do you send information to the Output window?

For the final: (Some questions from the mid-term may also be asked on the final)
  • What event handler is used to continuously track changes in an object's position on the stage?

  • In actionScript, what is the keyword "this" do and when is it used?

  • Is it possible to change the symbol reference to an instance, i.e. from a graphic to a movie clip?

  • How would you create an animated button?

  • If you delete a symbol from the project library, what happens to instances of that symbol that are in scenes or other instances in the project?

  • In terms of event handler functionality, what is the difference between the "on ()" and the "onClipEvent ()" commands?

  • What is the syntax for an "if" statement? What Boolean operators are allowed in an "if" test?

  • How do you attach a label to a frame?

  • Why is a timeline provided when everything in Flash can be done in actionScript?

  • How do you designate a global variable in actionScript?

  • In actionScript, how are the properties of an object on the scene layer accessed by an object within an instance and vice versa

  • Is the actionScript language case sensitive? When would it be important to be correct regarding case sensitivity?

  • What other programming or scripting language is most similar in syntax to actionScript?

  • What is the command that allows a viewer of a Flash movie (as a SWF runtime presentation) to click and drag an object on the stage?
NOTE: This is not all of the questions that I may ask in the written tests, but if you can answer these questions you will do well on the actual test(s). The questions on the tests will not be phrased as you read them here. When I ask about specific keystroke shortcuts, I may also ask where the equivalent menu command is located.
